Today, April 6th, is my Mothers birthday – not just any birthday, her 60th (sorry mum). Next week my Pops follows right behind with his 60th birthday.
Not being able to see my Parents especially on their 60th birthday is hard. So I wanted to take a moment to reflect & appreciate these two wonderful humans who have shaped me into the person I am today. My parents have taught me so many things, work ethic, humility and most important love.
Growing up both my parents were constantly working to provide the best life for my sister and me. My dad worked shift work, 10-12 hours a day as a forklift operator at the Chrysler plant In Brampton. Thing was, he would have to drive there every day, which was a 2 and half hour trip..on top of his shift. For my mother, she did anything and everything – from being our towns crossing guard, a factory worker and of course a PSW. This was all on top of constantly renovating our 120-year-old home, going to all my baseball games, keeping us fed and happy.
My childhood was always full of love and laughter, my parents are goofy and funny and never missed an opportunity to embarrass me. They would go out of their way to hug and kiss in public, and show each other how much they loved each other – and they knew it was embarrassing. When I would cause a stink they would tell me I should be so lucky to have parents who were proud to hold each other’s hands, and one day I would be grateful.
After my parents retired, they moved out to New Brunswick, to further this love story of theirs. My mom keeps busy with her art that she creates from glass – you can check it out here. My dad is active, and when he isn’t working on the house or the garden they are literally taking long walks on the beach or kayaking.
Mom, Dad I am so grateful to have you as parents, you make me proud. I love you, and can not wait to see you guys again as soon as possible. Thank you for supporting me always.
Enjoy your 60’s – the best is yet to come.
Love Justin
